Q: Can anyone receive sports massage? A: There are certain contraindications that prevent clients from receiving sports massage. These are normally discussed during the initial consultation. If you are unsure, the Practitioner will be willing to discuss details prior to your first visit. Q: What do I wear? A: Normally clients can wear any type of clothing as every effort is made to protect their modesty. It is however, necessary when carrying out an initial postural assessment, for clients to wear clothing that allows for a full appreciation of body alignment. Generally, male clients feel more comfortable in shorts and female clients feel more comfortable in shorts and a sports type bra or crop top. Q: How many treatments will I need? A: Each treatment is different. Certain clients may require more sessions than others. Most treatments, however, take an average of three to four sessions for the client to feel the benefits. After this a regular maintenance session is recommended every four to six weeks or as required. Q: what does it cost? A: Prices vary depending on the needs of the client. An initial consultation and postural assessment, including treatment, can take about one and a half hours. The cost is normally £40.00. Subsequent treatments last around 30 – 40 minutes and are £25.00 per session. Q: Does it hurt? A: Many people are under the assumption that sports massage needs to hurt to be of benefit. Lets dispel a few myths. A good sports Massage Practitioner works with and listens to his client and knows how to carry out an effective treatment and apply necessary pressure when required. This should not cause undue discomfort or pain. Q: What age do I need to be? A: It is preferred that clients are eighteen years or over. If Clients are between the ages of sixteen and eighteen in Scotland, they may receive treatment, only after prior agreement and consultation with parents. It should be noted that the attendance of a chaperone is encouraged.
